Political Issue That I Am Personally Interested In
There are many political issues that I am interested in, but most recently I have become interested in the problems with the Social Security system. With the baby boomers beginning to retire, people fear that the Social Security system will run out of money and collapse. I agree with these people. I worry that I will have to pay taxes towards Social Security all of my working years and then when it comes time for me to retire, I will never see a Social Security check with my name on it. It doesn't seem fair that my generation will have to give up some of our money when we will never get anything in return. I really think the government needs to devise a plan that will prevent the Social Security system from collapsing. There are many people in our country that rely on Social Security checks. Without them, the people may suffer from even worse economic problems.

I lose over 10% of my paycheck to Social Security already, its extremely frustrating knowing that either I'm going to get absolutely nothing back, or I'm going to have to pay even more just to see some money come back at me when I'm old and frail. Plus I think it's a risk making people pay more, because if it doesn't work out, there will be a lot of 65+ year olds without any money and no way to get jobs, and a whole lot of working age people who have diminished income due to the huge tax that has no benefit whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about the problems with social security at the moment. It seems to be far in the future for us, but really it's not. It is really frustrating that people like our parents will get this money and that we may never see any of it. Can you imagine having to work till you're 70 years old...That sucks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joey. I hadn't even thought about the social security issue. I think it's really intelligent that you're looking ahead because most people are only concerned about the here and now problems.
